  • The different types of blood that people can have are: A-, A+, B-, B+, AB-, AB+, O- and O+. What determines a person's blood type are the antigens on the red blood cells.  My blood type is O+ . Blood typing is done by the ABO grouping system which divides the blood types into 4 categories. It's important to know the type of blood because, the patient in need of a blood transfusion may have a fatal reaction if given the wrong blood type. Consequences include back pain, bloody urine, chills, fainting or dizziness, and flushing of the skin.
